The Lansing Board of Water & Light’s 22nd annual Chili Cook-off is back on Friday, September 29 from 5:30-9pm at the Adado Riverfront Park near downtown Lansing.

This year’s theme of Music Mania is sure to rock! Nearly 30 vendors will be drumming up gallons of chili and salsa, including local restaurants, nonprofits, businesses and organizations. From spicy hot to vegan, they’re ready to fight to win awards including People’s Choice and Best Meatless.

Back again this year is the merchandise tent and the chili dog eating contest, where participants will race to eat as many chili dogs as they can in 4 minutes. Fitting with the theme, there will also be plenty of live music. After winning the Battle of the Bands earlier this month, local band SoulPlay 517 earned their spot to perform live! They’ll join two other local groups to hit the main stage during the cook-off.

More ticket scanners and admission chutes will also be added to ensure a speedy entrance.

Things to know before you go:

  • Tickets purchased at the door will be cash only, with ATMs available
  • IDs are required for everyone over 21 who would like to purchase alcohol
  • No pets will be allowed inside the event

Pre-sale tickets are available online for a discounted rate before the event for $5 for adults and $3 for kids. Tickets on the day of the event and at the door are $10 for adults and $5 for kids. Pre-sale tickets will be through Thursday, September 28 at the Haco Customer Service Center and REO Headquarters. Back again this year are the Chili Fast Passes. Grab one online and get in to taste test a half an hour early!

Proceeds from the Chili Cook-off will benefit Pennies for Power, Impression 5 Science Center and the H.O.P.E. Scholarship Program.
